Cherrie is a mixed media artist and feltmaker, who works from her studio, that she affectionally calls her Cabinet of Curiosity, near Kendal, in the UK.

Her training and background as a museum professional, continues to fuel her interest in the visual characteristics and human stories embodied within objects, artworks and collections.

Cherrie has worked in museums, galleries and in cultural policy and educational roles. Her greatest joy has been teaching and sharing her love of art with other people, of all ages. She has spent many years facilitating and arranging activities and events to help interpret artefacts for other people. Now retired, she feels she has time to ‘play’ and explore her own personal responses and interest in collections and life cycles. This has been the catalyst for her current project, ‘My Cabinet of Curiosity’.

I am an observer and collector of moments. I create pictures and objects to help those moments survive. My ‘cabinet’ is not for storage and control. It is a place for care, protection, incubation and transmission.

Cherrie studied Fine Art, History of Art and Printmaking in Leicester and Georgia, U.S.A . She returned to the UK to take a post-graduate course in Museum Studies at Leicester University and became an Associate of the Museums Association. She also took a City and Guilds Level 3 course in Education and Training.

She is a member of the Green Door Artists group in Cumbria's Lake District and enjoys exhibiting, giving talks, leading occasional workshops and collaborating with other artists, both individually and with groups such as The Sketchbook Circle, International Feltmakers Association and Bookness Collective.
